Unique ‘Air Suspension’ design uses two cones to reduce mounting

It combines top technologies - the Interlaced Carbon/KEVLAR® brand Fibre Reinforced IMPP double cone - with the revolutionary space-saving concept, the Damper-less, Air suspension system. This innovative two-cone system creates an airtight space that reduces air pressure tension inside the subwoofer for clear, pure sound. A top-quality performer in a compact package, this subwoofer is sure to appeal to customers demanding design and installation flexibility along with their high power performance.

Air Suspension

Mechanical engineering principles govern speaker cones and their ability to translate electrical impulses into cone movement and its resulting audio output. Pioneer's Air Suspension design has replaced the traditional "spider" with a double-cone system where both cones move as a single unit. The triangulation of the design means that cone movement is accurate and controlled for great bass. A key benefit is the reduction in enclosure volume required for optimal subwoofer performance. This is great news for delivering bass output without compromising vehicle cabin space. Air Suspension is also the technology that makes the Slimline Series of Pioneer subwoofers possible - hard-hitting bass from three subwoofers all less than 100mm in total depth.

Interlaced Carbon Fibre Reinforced IMPP Cone

In order to prevent cone failure at high SPL levels, an extremely rigid yet lightweight cone was required to comply with design requirements. A new patent-pending IMPP cone using a special blend of Carbon fibres was developed. The long carbon fibres interlace together to form an incredibly resilient fibre weave, providing strength and rigidity for the cone.
